BJP targets local Cong MLA for confronting Monu Manesar in Assembly, advocating against violence.

In the context of the Nuh violence, besides Monu Manesar, an alleged cow vigilante, Congress MLA Mamman Khan’s name has been prominently mentioned. On Thursday, the BJP accused the 56-year-old Khan of inciting the violence through his “provocative” statements in the Haryana Assembly.

Mamman Khan is known for his social work in the southern Haryana region and won on a Congress ticket in the 2019 elections from the Firozepur Jhirka Assembly seat with 57.62% of the votes, defeating the BJP’s Naseem Ahmed by over 32,000 votes. This victory came after Khan’s previous unsuccessful attempt as an Independent in 2014 against Ahmed, who contested on an INLD ticket at that time.

During the Budget Session of the Haryana Assembly in February, following the killings of Junaid and Nasir by alleged cow vigilantes, which is believed to be a trigger for the recent violence, Mamman Khan named Monu Manesar as one of the individuals responsible for the murders and demanded strict action against him. Junaid and Nasir belonged to Rajasthan, and their bodies were discovered in Bhiwani, Haryana.

Manesar’s name also surfaced in connection with the Nuh violence due to his social media posts, where he expressed intentions to join a religious yatra led by the VHP and Bajrang Dal in the area, which was seen as provocative by the Muslim community.

In the Assembly, Khan presented photographs depicting acts of violence allegedly by Manesar and dared him to visit the Mewat region, warning that he would face consequences if he did so. He accused Manesar of being associated with prominent politicians like Amit Shah and the late Arun Jaitley in the past.

Following Khan’s accusations, Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala initiated a committee to investigate the matter.

In response to the Nuh violence, Manesar accused Khan and other Muslim MLAs in the area of supporting the rioters.

The BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi raised suspicions about the Congress’s role in the violence based on Khan’s statements in the Vidhan Sabha and his social media posts.

Congress leaders, including Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Rajya Sabha MP Deepender Hooda, defended Khan and criticized the Haryana government for the violence, calling for accountability and action against the rioters.

In light of the ongoing tensions, fear prevails in Nuh, and people are leaving their homes due to concerns about the police’s approach in handling the situation, as many innocent people are being affected along with the accused. The state government is facing allegations of intelligence failure and a lack of decisive action to prevent the violence.
