AAP will participate in INDIA Alliance’s Mumbai meeting amidst tension with Congress.

In the midst of recent tensions between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress within the INDIA alliance, a series of events unfolded. Congress leader Alka Lamba’s statement on Wednesday, where she mentioned preparing for all seven Delhi Lok Sabha seats after a meeting with the party’s top leadership, stirred a reaction from AAP. This caused AAP to question the value of attending the upcoming Mumbai meeting of the INDIA alliance if the Congress intended to pursue its own path in Delhi.

Seeking clarity, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal confirmed his participation in the alliance’s third meeting in Mumbai. He explained that while no decision had been made regarding an alliance, Alka Lamba’s remark about preparing on all seven seats had raised concerns within AAP.

Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit dismissed the idea of controversy surrounding the alliance and accused AAP of either trying to blackmail or garner attention through its statements. Dikshit highlighted that AAP might have become anxious due to potential signals from Amit Shah’s speech and the party’s eagerness to remain in the news.

On a different note, Congress expressed openness to supporting AAP if they align with the Congress central leadership’s ideology. The decision for an alliance would ultimately be determined by the central leadership.

The INDIA alliance, formed by 26 political parties to challenge the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, is expected to unveil its logo during the upcoming meeting in Mumbai. With participation from around 80 leaders representing more than 26 political parties, the alliance is poised to grow during the event.

The INDIA alliance, officially known as the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, held its inaugural meeting in Patna in June and the subsequent meeting in Bengaluru the following month. Its purpose is to provide a united front against the NDA in the upcoming elections.
