Following the imposition of a curfew in Imphal East and West twin districts, the situation remained tense but normal on September 22, as reported by PTI. The curfew had been enforced on September 21 in response to protests where demonstrators had stormed police stations, demanding the release of five youths previously arrested for possessing sophisticated weapons and wearing attire resembling army uniforms.

On Thursday, over 30 individuals, primarily women, sustained minor injuries when they attempted to storm police stations in Porompat and Heingang in Imphal East, as well as Singjamei and Kwakeithel in Imphal West. This led to security forces, including RAF personnel, firing multiple tear gas rounds.

However, authorities in Imphal East and Imphal West exempted certain groups from the curfew, including municipality officials, electricity workers, healthcare personnel, PHED staff, journalists, and flight passengers en route to the airport.

The Imphal valley has witnessed protests organized by six local clubs and Meira Paibis, demanding the release of the five village volunteers. Curfew restrictions were eased in other parts of the Imphal valley, including Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur districts, to allow the public to purchase essential items like medicine and food. In Thoubal, curfew hours were reduced from 5 am to 9 pm, while in Bishnupur, it was from 5 am to 5 pm.

On September 16, Manipur police had arrested five individuals for carrying advanced weapons and wearing camouflage uniforms. They were presented before a judicial magistrate and placed in police custody.

In a separate development, the Manipur government issued a show cause notice to a private telecom company regarding the availability of internet data services on mobile phones, despite the suspension of mobile data services still being in effect, as reported by PTI. The official noted that internet data services on mobile phones were detected in certain areas of Churachandpur and adjoining Bishnupur district on September 20.
