PhonePe has launched the Indus Appstore Developer Platform, aimed at Android app developers in India, with a focus on providing a tailored experience in 12 languages suited for the Indian audience. The platform encourages developers to register and upload their apps to the “Made-in-India” Indus appstore.

For the initial year, developers can list their apps on the Indus Appstore Developer Platform for free, followed by a nominal annual fee. Notably, the platform does not charge any platform fees or commissions for In-App Payments, allowing developers the flexibility to integrate their preferred payment gateways.

Akash Dongre, the CPO and Co-Founder of Indus Appstore, emphasized the vast potential of the Indian smartphone market, with an expected user base of over one billion by 2026. The platform aims to offer a credible alternative to Google Playstore by focusing on localization, improved app discovery, and enhanced consumer engagement.

According to PhonePe, the Indus Appstore Developer Platform serves as an alternative distribution channel for Android developers seeking access to the Indian market, with a particular focus on multilingual app discovery to facilitate high-quality user acquisition.

The platform also introduces a “Launch Pad” feature designed to boost visibility and search optimization for startups and new app releases. Developers can leverage various tools and features, including round-the-clock customer support, the option to list their apps in 12 Indian languages, and the ability to build their brand through engaging videos.

Indus Appstore offers several features, including mobile number-based login for users without email accounts, zero commissions for In-App payments, and no listing fees for the first year. The platform additionally provides cohort-based targeted release management, real-time app vitals monitoring, analytics, and competitor analysis.

PhonePe asserts that Indus Appstore caters to the localized and cultural preferences of Indian consumers, offering a wide range of categories in English and 12 Indian languages. For developers, it serves as a comprehensive platform for listing, distributing, and promoting their products within the Indian app ecosystem. Developers can also take advantage of self-publishing options, localization services, and 24×7 customer support.
