Heavy rains prompt closure of government and private schools in specified Tamil Nadu districts today.

Government and private schools in Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Theni, Thoothukudi, and Kanniyakumari districts have announced a holiday on Thursday due to heavy rainfall, following directives from the respective District Collectors. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) earlier stated that cyclonic circulations over Tamil Nadu could lead to moderate to medium rainfall, accompanied by thunder and lightning in Kerala over the next five days. There’s a possibility of heavy rains in isolated places in Tamil Nadu from November 22-24.

Based on IMD data for X, rainfall measurements in various Tamil Nadu areas are as follows: Dharapur recorded 17cm, Avinashi and Andipatti both saw 14cm each, Parangiprttai experienced 13cm, and Watrap had 12cm of rainfall.

The Chennai Regional Meteorological Center’s Thursday forecast anticipates light to moderate rainfall throughout Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal regions, with thunderstorms and lightning at specific locations. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in various districts of Tamil Nadu and the Karaikal area.

The Friday forecast predicts a probability of heavy rain at isolated locations in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Tenkasi, and Tiruvallur districts of Tamil Nadu. The outlook extends to expect light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, continuing until November 28th.

According to a senior official from IMD, sections of Maharashtra, including the coastal Konkan region, and Goa are expected to encounter light to moderate rainfall between November 23 and November 27 due to the influence of robust moisture-laden easterly winds in the area, as reported by PTI.
