Suspension of Telangana’s top cop, who met Revanth Reddy on election result day, is revoked.

On Tuesday, the Election Commission took the decision to lift the suspension of former Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Anjani Kumar. The suspension had been imposed on December 3 due to his breach of the code of conduct on election results day. Kumar had visited the residence of Congress leader Revanth Reddy to congratulate him amidst the ongoing vote counting, ultimately leading to Reddy’s victory as the Chief Minister.

The reason for Anjani Kumar’s suspension was his gesture of presenting a bouquet of flowers to Revanth Reddy, captured in photos and videos that went viral on social media. The meeting occurred as trends in the vote count indicated Reddy’s favorable outcome.

Anjani Kumar, accompanied by Sanjay Jain, the state police nodal officer, had engaged with Anumula Revanth Reddy before the announcement of the election results. The Congress, led by Revanth Reddy as a prominent campaigner, successfully secured a simple majority in the Telangana Assembly elections, forming the party’s first government in the southern state.

The final seat distribution in the Telangana Assembly elections revealed that the Congress won 64 out of 119 seats, the BRS secured 39 seats, the BJP obtained 9 seats, the AIMIM won 7 seats, and the Communist Party of India claimed 1 seat.
